TEN man Larne were just minutes away from holding on for a valuable Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 win against Warrenpoint Town.
The border team thwarted Paul Millar's side with a late equaliser at Inver Park on Saturday.
Larne made the perfect start when Sencer Yilmaz scored his eighth goal of the season just five minutes into the game.
Brian McClean played a fine through ball, and Yilmaz lobbed Jonathan Parr who had rushed out of his goal to narrow the angle.
However, the Inver Reds suffered a huge setback when Marc Brown was shown a red card for an off the ball incident six minutes into the second period.
Warrenpoint Town went on to dominate a game which had been otherwise in the balance.
During the course of the afternoon they hit the woodwork three times, and fine blocks from White and McClean preserved the lead.
A man down, Larne's only option was to play on the counter attack and it nearly reaped dividends.
Craig Todd was on the end of a Larne break, but Jonathan Parr matched Todd's effort with a fine save.
Town, who had been knocking on the door throughout the second half, got the equaliser they deserved four minutes from time.
A long shot was headed into the air by Dom Melly, and it fell kindly for Paudie Smith who looped a volley over Henry and into the far corner of the net.
Larne could still have stolen the points though.
Adam Dick broke from his own half, but the Warrenpoint defence forced last season's top scorer to shoot from outside the box which Parr dealt with easily.
The best chance fell to Sencer Yilmaz, and it was all his own making.
The big striker chased a lost cause, and even tackled a defender which left him one on one with Parr.
He tried to hit the ball over the goalkeeper as he did with his goal, but this time the keeper was ready for it and stopped the shot. |
