LARNE left it late to secure a deserved three points in Saturday's Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 clash against Tobermore United at Inver Park.
Niall McAllister's stoppage time winner earned the Inver Reds victory in a match which they dominated for long spells.
In the opening period, United goalkeeper Foster was forced into two superb stops.
The first came from a well struck Marc Brown free kick.
The shot was heading for the top corner, until Foster clawed it away. Foster's second stop came when did well to adjust his weight to palm away a well placed Yilmaz header.
Whilst Larne had the better chances and better territory in a hard fought opening period they went in at half time a goal down.
On 37 minutes, Marc Brown attempted to head the ball back to Gibbons. The header fell slightly short, and Gibbons appeared to slip as he came to collect the ball, which allowed it to escape his grasp.
Neil Lamont was on hand to capitalise and send the ball into an empty net. The home side piled on the pressure in the second period, as Tobermore tried to slow down and fragment the game.
However, Larne got the equaliser on 71 minutes. Sencer Yilmaz' shirt was tugged inside the box which caused the referee to award a penalty. Marc Brown rifled a pacey spot kick into the net.
Paul Millar's side continued to push for a winner. Sencer Yilmaz was unlucky when his smart turn and shot went just wide.
Paul Maguire could also have found the net with the best move of the game.
However, the striker failed to make a clean connection with Lemon's clever cross. Larne were not to be denied the winner they deserved and it came five minutes into stoppage.
Robbie White lobbed a free kick in from the halfway line.
Paul Maguire headed it across goal, and Niall McAllister slammed into over the line for his 8th goal of the season.
Tempers flared as the final whistle blew, and the net result of the ensuing melee was a red card for Sencer Yilmaz.
He will miss next week's trip to Ballyclare to play Ards, and there is real concern that he could also miss the Steel & Sons Cup Final. |
